JOB PROFILE
DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
Part time: up to 25 hours/week
Position Vision and Purpose:
For a young church to grow, an essential element is building into the lives of children and young families. Parents are often looking for a community in which their children can grow and be formed by Christ. At Community West, we aim to provide quality discipleship and outreach to young families, and to equip parents to be effective disciplers of their children in the home. This position envisions a person who can build and lead a growing ministry to children, birth – 5th grade, and to young families. We envision someone with a proven record in church children’s ministry, and with the energy and creativity to help build this ministry in a young church. This person would be a vital member of the ministry team at Community West helping to create a well-aligned plan for discipleship for children, youth and adults.

Demonstrates an enthusiasm for and willingness to embrace Community West Church’s ministry philosophy and evangelistic vision
Demonstrates an ability to lead and inspire volunteers
Loves children and demonstrates an ability to engage them as a teacher
Demonstrates humility and teachability, in keeping with those whose lives are being transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ
Is a self-starter, organizing and directing work in an unstructured environment, without close supervision
Understands and embraces our denominational context (The Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians) and is comfortable theologically in the Reformed evangelical tradition.
Understands and embraces the “all-hands-on-deck” ethos of a young church.
Values and contributes to a healthy staff culture.
Demonstrates a growing grasp of God’s grace, and engages in spiritual disciplines, including prayer and Bible study.
Is willing to submit to the authority of the Lead Pastor and Session.
Overview of Job Requirements and Responsibilities:
Disciple-Making Vision for Children – designs and implements a discipleship plan for children that aligns with the overall discipleship profile and plan for Community West.
Volunteer Recruiting and Support – builds flourishing volunteer teams, ensures all volunteers and staff are in compliance with child safety protocols, and helps to promote a volunteer culture at Community West.
Parent Equipping – vision casts, encourages and equips parents as the primary disciple-makers of their children.
Evangelism and Mission Initiatives – leads evangelism and mission initiatives for children and families, designed to help engage unchurched young families and serve needs in the region.
Worship Formation and Education – trains children to be thoughtful, interested participants in worship services.
Summer Outreach – develops a plan for summer discipleship and mission, such as Vacation Bible School.
Supervision of Staff – Hires, directs and supports an Assistant Director of Children’s Ministry and a small number of paid adult and youth caregivers.
Professional Development – keeps current in core competencies.

Vision-casting – Lives in the overall aims and purposes of Community West, communicating those purposes regularly to volunteers and staff.
Networking – Builds relationships with other children’s ministry leaders in the region for connection, support, and idea sharing.
Administration – Possesses strong organizational skills, is dependable and good with follow-through.
Personal Evangelism – Builds friendships with those who are not following Jesus, inviting them to get involved in our church and looking for opportunities to share your hope of Christ.
Job Details:
Education and Experience - The ideal candidate would have an undergraduate degree and significant experience in children’s ministry in quality church settings.
Compensation - Compensation is commensurate with the person’s gifts, ministry experience, and also the church and West Richmond context.
Supervisor - Responsible to the Lead Pastor. Will participate in annual reviews and quarterly evaluations and receive real-time feedback and development.
