We’re in an Advent series on the Beginning of the Story. Advent is a word that means “Coming.” During Advent we wait for the coming of Jesus. There are four writers in the Bible who tell the story of the coming of Jesus. Each has different beginning to his story. The question is why do the gospel writers begin their stories the way they do?
There is a certain audacity to how the gospel writers begin their books. They all seem to want to reveal something about Jesus and his lordship that is glorious good news. But they do it from a different vantage point. They each seem to have a different perspective on who He is, and that perspective is revealed in the beginning of the story. As we learn who He is, we will be better able to receive him this Advent and Christmas.
