Christmas is when Christians celebrate baby Jesus coming to earth. It was God saying, “Here I am. I’ve come in the flesh to be near you.” However, while most people long to be close to God, often we don’t know how. We stumble along in our private spiritual quests, but often end up disappointed. More than any other person who ever lived, the apostle John knew that to be close to Jesus was to be close to God eternal. John walked and talked with Jesus. However John also experienced Jesus as the divine life. In his little letter called 1 John, John writes about what it means to be joined to Jesus and in so doing to be joined to the fullness of life.
